VPS Competitive Dance

At Vancouver Performing Stars, our Competitive Dance Team program offers dedicated dancers ages 7–17 the opportunity to excel in tap, jazz, and ballet. Dancers are placed into one of four teams based on age, experience, and skill level, and participate in weekly training, performances, and competitions throughout the year. Whether your child is a seasoned performer or wanting to step onto the competition stage for the first time, we’re here to nurture each child’s growth, creativity, and genuine love for dance.

Each Dance Team attends 3 Dance Competitions, performs in the VPS Nutcracker & Spring Showcase, and receives other exciting performance and training opportunities throughout the year.

Team dancers are required to participate in one week of the Dance Team Summer Intensive: July 27th-31st or August 24th-28th.

  • Emerald Dance Team - Grades 3–6

  • Sapphire Dance Team - Grades 6–8

  • Diamond Dance Team - Grades 8–12

  • Topaz Dance Team* - Grades 8–12
    *For dancers wishing to commit to just 1 day per week and train in ballet, jazz, and contemporary.

In addition, we offer a variety of Specialty Competitive Teams for those looking to expand their dance training, including:

  • The VPS Hip Hop Crew

  • Competitive Acro

  • Competitive Lyrical

  • Competitive Contemporary

  • Competitive Song & Dance (Live singing)

  • Competitive Musical Theatre Dance

  • Emerald Dance Team 

    • Grades: 3–6

    • Styles: Tap, Jazz, Ballet

    Weekly Schedule:

    • 2.75 hours per week

      • Mondays: 4:30–5:45pm

      • Thursdays: 3:45-5:30pm

    Performances & Competitions:

    • The VPS Nutcracker & Spring Showcase 

    • Community Events 

    • 2 Group Dances at 3 Competitions

      • 1 Competition is out-of-town

    Jazz Examinations

    We are excited to offer ADAPT Jazz / Dynamic Ballet Examinations for our Dance Team dancers. ADAPT is an internationally recognized syllabus that provides dancers with a structured pathway for technical development and the opportunity to earn official certification as they progress through each level of training.

    Participation is optional, but highly recommended for dancers who are committed to technical excellence, value goal-oriented learning, and wish to track and celebrate their progress through a recognized achievement program.

    Specialty Teams

    Emerald dancers may also audition for the following specialty teams:

    • Ignite Hip Hop Crew

    • Competitive Acro

    • Competitive Lyrical

    • Competitive Song & Dance

    • Competitive Musical Theatre

  • Sapphire Dance Team

    • 3.25 hours per week:

      • Mondays: 4:30–6:00pm

      • Thursdays: 3:45-6:30pm *Dancers are assigned a 2-hour time slot.
